Our AGM and dinner this evening were successfully concluded. Thanks to VdW staff for the excellent arrangements. It is my opinion that the Convention was another successful event enjoyed thoroughly by most of the delegates attending. For the record, Gillian Le Cordeur of Van der Walt & Co (IET SA Network secretariat) has advised that there were 69 teachers at the Faraday Lecture last Thursday, which is a record - well done Gillian! Each teacher received a free DVD of the Faraday Lecture to take back to their schools to present to their learners. Based on a conservative estimate of screening to 100 learners each, this would mean that in Gauteng alone, which is the developed economic hub of South and sub-Sahara Africa, the 2008 Faraday Lecture will reach some 6900 learners with a teacher/coach to guide them through the content. The broadcasting of the 2008 Faraday Lecture to Africa on digital satellite TV, and to schools throughout SA in the remote education program, means that it will reach literally hundreds of thousands of learners! This is truly a major achievement, which may indeed be unequalled by any IET Network throughout the world!
